Indie Artist Debra Cohen submits her song about Robert Plant in Global Citizen Festival

As a way of honoring her favorite all-time rock singer, and to alert women about the uncontrolled number of celebrity imposters preying on women in social media

Did Robert Plant Just Call Debra?! A Rock-and-Roll Mystery Unfolds

Debra could hardly believe her eyes. Her phone buzzed with a video call—from Robert Plant? The legendary frontman of Led Zeppelin? It all started when a mysterious man began messaging her on TikTok, claiming to be none other than Plant himself. “I’m your favorite Led Zeppelin singer,” he wrote, insisting he was the real deal.

As an indie artist, Debra was no stranger to odd and unsolicited messages from strangers online. But this was different. Something about the tone, the confidence, the timing—it gave her pause. Still, she wasn’t about to fall for a catfish. “Video call me or don’t bother,” she told him firmly.

To her shock, he agreed.

When Debra answered the call, she nearly dropped her phone. There he was—Robert Plant—his unmistakable face on her screen, talking directly to her. His lips were moving. His hair, that legendary mane, catching the light. She was breathless. Electrified. Speechless.

But just as quickly as the rock-and-roll magic began… it glitched.

His image froze. The voice on the other end—suddenly less convincing—claimed there were “technical issues” and promised to call again after the tour. And with that, he was gone.

Heart racing, Debra immediately called her friend Ana, giddy and breathless with excitement. “You won’t believe what just happened,” she said.

The two of them squealed and replayed the call in their minds. But Ana, ever the skeptic, opened her laptop and started digging. Within minutes, the dream began to unravel.

What did she find?
Was Debra really video-called by a rock legend?
Or had a clever impersonator used deepfake trickery to pull off the ultimate digital illusion?

Let’s see what happened by looking into the insights of Debra’s lyrics from her song, “Catfisher”, which tell the story:

You pretending to be someone I want to see

And you’re using somebody else’s name (not yours)

And you tell me God sent you, on my way

And you want me to believe that you are Percy (Lord have mercy)

You talking so smooth - want me falling for the line

As I listen to your nefarious wooing

And you messing with my mind and my curious heart

What’s your reason for pretending, whatcha doing (doing the do)

You’re a catfisher, wearing your disguise (as the wild man of The Blues)

You’re a catfisher, predatory lies (such a fake)

And I’ve had a half dozen tell me they are someone else

Who say they’re Robert Plant and who they’re not

You’re just another wannabe to trip me up, I see

Preying on the women with your sinister plot (nasty)

You’re a catfisher, salivating eyes (lusting after women you choose)

You’re a catfisher, trickster in disguise (always on the make)

You catfishing me on social media

Using celebrity pictures

Trying to trick us with your lip sync videos

Of the rock star that you have never been (you’re so rogue)

You’re a catfisher, wearing your disguise (as the wild man of The Blues)

You’re a catfisher, predatory lies (such a fake)

You’re a catfisher, salivating eyes (lusting after women you choose)

You’re a catfisher, trickster fantasize (always on the make)
